EvaSMART Model 3 has been tested to successfully connect to the majority of Wi-Fi networks created by different models of routers. If you faced troubles while pairing your evaSMART to your smartphone, please see the instructions on how to fix the issue.
The most likely reasons for the unsuccessful connection:
Reason 1. Your smartphone is connected to the network incompatible with the evaSMART device
evaSMART device only works with 2.4 GHz WiFi networks. During the pairing process the phone must be connected to one in order for pairing to succeed. Some routers are able to generate both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks at the same time (work in dual band mode). If the network names are identical, it may occur that your smartphone is automatically connected to a 5GHz network which evaSMART is not able to recognize and connect to. This only affects devices with firmware versions below 313.
To check your firmware version, please do the following: while the unit is powered but not turned on (the only thing you should see on the screen is a glowing "Power" button), please press "+" and "-" buttons at the same time, or rather the place where they would be if your device was turned on. After you've done that the screen will display your unit's firmware. |
Solutions:
Method 1:
(Please, pay attention: this would spend mobile traffic)
- Ensure that your home WiFi network is unreachable or turned off.
- Create a 2.4 GHz hotspot on another phone or device with exactly the same name (SSID) as the original one, password could be different.
- Connect your phone to this network and perform the pairing, ensure to enter the valid credentials for your home network.
- Turn off the hotspot and put the device in range of your working home network and wait for it to connect.
Method 2:
(Please, pay attention: this would spend mobile traffic)
evaSMART's firmware ver >=313 is able to skip this process, ignoring 5GHz, and connect to 2.4GHz. In case your evaSMART's firmware is <313, you can do the following:
- Create a 2.4 GHz hotspot on another phone or device
- Temporarily connect to this 2.4 GHz hotspot and use it to pair with evaSMART, following the instructions in the Evapolar application.
- Navigate to the settings in the Evapolar app and update the firmware to the latest version. Ensure to follow the firmware <update guidelines>.
- Disconnect from the hotspot and connect to your home network, following the instructions in the Evapolar application.
Method 3:
You can temporarily (only for pairing period) disable/rename the 5GHz network via the router settings if your router allows to do so (usually available in your PC or laptop browser). If you cannot cope with this on your own, we will be happy to help you, but for this, we need to know the model of your router. Please, contact us via our Technical Help Form and let us know the requested information plus your router model. We'll contact you ASAP and provide you with the full instructions.
Firmware update
Over-the-air (OTA) firmware update consumes a lot of device resources. Thus, we highly recommend to adhere to these instructions before updating:
- Ensure that you are using the supplied power adapter.
- Turn the fan off with the corresponding button
- Unplug the power cord from the device and plug it back, wait for device to connect to WiFi. At this point you should only have globe icon and Power button on screen. Fan and backlight are off.
- Launch the app and request an update
- Please note that if you have firmware version 310 or lower it will update step by step, from the 311 and onward it goes directly to the latest version.
Reason 2. Settings of your iPhone do not allow it to pair with evaSMART
Solution:
If your version of iOS is 14 or higher: please, allow the Evapolar app to find and connect to devices on your local network. You can do it through the application itself or through your applications' settings. Please, see the screenshots below.
Reason 3. Your iOS version is 14.8
Solution:
Update your iOS to >15 version, if possible.
